Our Vision
We work to create a world in Delaware and the region where every child or adult that is deaf or hard of hearing will live well by empowering and supporting them in their lifelong hearing loss journey.
Our Mission
The Mission of the Hearing Loss Association of Delaware (HLADE): is to open the world of communication to children and adults with hearing loss in
Delaware and the region. We do this through providing information, education, support and advocacy. HLADE is a Delaware private, non-profit, tax exempt association, 501 (3)c. It is a State Association affiliated with the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) at www.hearingloss.org We offer help and hope for people with hearing loss!!
Our primary purpose is to:
1. INFORM AND EDUCATE ourselves, our families, friends, children, coworkers, teachers, hearing health care providers, industry, government, emergency professionals and others about deaf and hard of hearing people. Inform, educate, and train private and public entities to learn about and improve the quality of life for children and adults in the community that are Deaf, late-deafened or hard of hearing. We love to partner and collaborate with others to inform, educate, support and advocate! We provide trusted information and research on innumerable aspects of hearing loss and related conditions, from technological and medical advances to communication, coping and communication strategies for adults, teens, children and their families.
2. EMPOWER individuals to improve their quality of life through living well with hearing loss and promote lifelong learning about hearing loss, provide communication tools, the latest hearing technology and research, and know their rights and responsibilities as deaf or hard of hearing individuals.
3. We give SUPPORT to individuals, families and caregivers through individual and group support. We have statewide groups called “Circle Chats” that meet monthly depending on need and provide one-on-one help and mentorship referrals to children and adults. We offer other programs to support people with hearing loss too!!!
4. We ADVOCATE for communication access in the workplace, hotels, schools, governments, courts, medical, and entertainment facilities,etc. We belong to statewide government councils and testify at state, and local legislative bodies on issues concerning people that are deaf or hard of hearing. We help educate and advocate for federal, state and local laws that give equal access to deaf and hard of hearing people. We promote new technology, medical research, and legislation that will psitively impact the effects of hearing loss. We encourage, advocate for and participate in research to improve hearing aids, education, assistive listening devices, cochlear implants, technology needs and advances in treatment for consumers with hearing loss.Our goal is to provide consumers, parents, families, professionals and others with the best, most trusted information, options and choices available so the consumer can make the best self-directed decisions for them, their loved ones or for those advising them.
HLADE is a leading Delaware voice that seeks to improve communication access for any child or adult with any type or degree of hearing loss.
